Dr Daniel Carvalho

Daniel Carvalho conducted a 6 month research component in our lab as part of his PhD project on conservation genetics of Neotropical fishes. His PhD was awarded by Universidade de Minas Gerais, in Brazil. In 2011 he returned to the lab for a 1 year postdoc, also on conservation genetics of fishes. After this postdoc he got a faculty position at Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Minas Gerais (PUC Minas), where he now lectures and is establishing his own lab on conservation genetics.

Research Interests

Daniel’s main research interests and expertise include molecular marker development, population genetics, parentage analysis and invasive biology studies. He is currently involved in projects on conservation genetics and DNA barcoding of Neotropical fishes. He has also recently used a range of molecular markers to look at the population structure and restocking success of migratory fishes in Brazil that have been impacted by hydroelectric dams.
