I am currently interested in aspects of cetacean population history, phylogeography and molecular evolution. Since 2004 I have been studying the evolutionary relationships of a closely related group of dolphin species, the subfamily Delphininae. I received my degree in Marine Biology from the University of Lisbon, Portugal in 2005 and my Masters in Evolutionary Biology also from the University of Lisbon in 2007. I continued through to my PhD in Evolutionary Biology also in the University of Lisbon and in Macquarie University, Australia. During my PhD I have also focused on the phylogeography and population genetic structure of common dolphins (genus Delphinus), in an effort to elucidate the controversial taxonomy within the genus. I am a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission.
